The rain came down but the miles flew by as we rolled through the Scottish backcountry. At times the saturated ground gave way to boggy bits but we were riding great single track with enough technical bits to keep everyone excited.
As the day rolled on though the cold began to set in on some of the crew and as a bothy came into sight spirits lightened at the thought of a nice fire and some hand warming with lunch out of the elements.
Those that had the dishwashing gloves found that they were only a little better off than those without as the gloves were small and tight which made your hands cold anyway.
Unfortunately the bothy was closed down tight and off we went in search of our lunch destination. Excited we were to find a bridge for our next creek crossing whose great stone walls provided a welcome break from the elements.
We ended our day climbing out of the valley and onto the road to drop quickly down to our destination, the town of Ballater which is the town related to Balmoral Castle, the Queen's summer home, in the area known as Royal Deeside.
